Oued Lau (Arabic: واد لاو, Berber: Wad Law) is a small town in northern Morocco on the Mediterranean coast. The two main cities are near Tetouan, Chefchaouen northwest and southwest. In 2004, the city had 8383 inhabitants.
You can take a great Tetouan taxi (45 minute drive) (located at the beginning of the street شارع الدارالبيضاء Casablanca) at Oued Lau, which will cost 25Dirhams or you can just take a bus from the same street as 7Dirhams. In 2008, the Moroccan government has started work on the new road designed along the Mediterranean coast between Tetouan Jebha and through Oued Lau. Given the difficulty of the terrain and a fragile soil structure, the road was finally inaugurated by His Highness Mohammed VI August 11, 2012, Oued Lau has a reputation as one of the most tranquil beaches near Tetouan. The city is named after the river of the same name, which has its source in the Rif Mountains near Chefchaouen.
The northern beaches are renowned for their beauty. The village of Oued Lau is no exception. This village located 45 km from Tetouan has a view of the sea of the same name. To get there, you just have to take the road to Chefchaouen and enjoy passing landscape waterfall Akchour. For swimming or sunbathing, the inhabitants of Tetouan are obliged to leave the city and go to either Martil Mdiq or later Oued Lau.
The main economic activity in this region is fishing. Walking on the sand of this beach, vacationers see wooden boats handmade. Every morning, fishermen cast their nets to catch fish in the area. The best known and most popular are the red porgy (or Town: sea bream), anchovies and sardines.
The restaurants are located by the sea and the village market. They offer tagines Pandora and anchovies prepared in Moroccan style North with a mixture of garlic, parsley, thyme, paprika and lemon juice. This tagine is prepared and presented in an oval ceramic dish called Tagra. Local dishes also include a plate of grilled sardines accompanied by a salad of tomatoes and onions.
Every Tuesday, local products are sold in the large market place Oued Lau. Products such as cotton fabric, stripes of different colors, "Mendil" the local name, are sold here ..
Wealth disparities are evident. The poorest people are told to try to fool tourists by waiving a portion of the money through storytelling developed. The rich often rent their homes to tourists in the holiday periods, especially since King Mohamed VI called the North of Morocco had to develop a tourist area.
